Raising the Egyptian flag inside the headquarters of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon after Egypt joining

The Ministry of Health and Population announced that Dr. Hesham Al-Ghazali, Chairman of the National Committee for the Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, won membership in the Scientific Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), during the election during a meeting of the agency’s Board of Directors at its headquarters in the French city of Lyon.

DR Elisabete Weiderpass, Director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), congratulated Dr. Hesham Al-Ghazali on his election as a member of the Agency’s Scientific Council, expressing her appreciation for his role in efforts to combat cancer, and her confidence in his ability to support the Agency’s global efforts with his joining the Scientific Council.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Hesham Al-Ghazali chairs the Supreme Committee of the Presidential Initiative to Support Women's Health, works as a professor of oncology, director of the Research Center at Ain Shams University, and a major participant in the Global Initiative to Eliminate Breast Cancer of the World Health Organization.

The agency had announced Egypt's official accession to its membership during the current session No. 66 of the Board of Directors, making it the 29th member of the global agency affiliated with the World Health Organization. The Egyptian flag was raised inside the agency's headquarters in the French city of Lyon in a ceremony attended by Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and Population Affairs for Public Health Initiatives, representing the Ministry of Health and Population, and Ambassador Khaled Atallah, Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the Permanent Mission of the United Nations in Geneva, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
