The first day of the twelfth scientific conference at Ain Shams University witnessed a special session on international partnerships in the field of language study and translation, organized by the Faculty of Al-Alsun, entitled “Partnerships in the field of studies related to languages,” under the auspices of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University.
The session was witnessed by the Korean Ambassador to Cairo, Kim Young Hyun, and the session was moderated by Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Ashraf Attia, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
In her speech, Prof. Salwa expressed her happiness with the large attendance and welcomed the Korean ambassador to Cairo, “Kim Young Hyun,” and confirmed that this session is attended by a number of the college’s strategic allies who have cooperative relations with the college in the academic, research, and training fields, namely the British Council, which cooperates with the faculty has worked closely over the last three years in organizing and holding IELTS exams at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, in addition to organizing ICT exams for IG international schools.
During his speech, Dr. Mohamed Mansour, Director of Business Development at the British Council, expressed his happiness at receiving the invitation to the conference and representing the British Council in the events, indicating that the British Council was keen to build many partnerships, create opportunities, and support young researchers, especially between it and Ain Shams University.
The Japan Foundation also participated in the session, represented by Ayumi Hashimoto, Director of the Foundation, which has close cooperation relations with the Faculty of Al-Alsun, which resulted in holding the international Japanese language proficiency exam at the Faculty of Al-Alsun over the years, in addition to many activities and events supporting the Japanese Language Department at the Faculty.
In addition to the participation of Ms. Maryam Harbi, the cooperation coordinator with the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University and the United Nations Department of Interpretation, in an intervention via video conference, where the United Nations Translation Department cooperates with the faculty in organizing training programs for students of simultaneous translation and translation in organizing many seminars, workshops and international scientific and cultural events.
In addition to the participation of the Korean side, which was represented by Mr. Oh Se-jung, the Korean language expert at the faculty, who gave a speech about cooperation and partnerships for the Korean Language Department.
Ayumi Hashimoto, Director of the Japanese Foundation in Cairo, also presented a brief overview of the Foundation, which is an independent administrative organization established by the Japanese government in 1972 to carry out international cultural exchange programs and deepen understanding between Japan and other countries. The Foundation has several activities that fall under three main areas: arts and cultural exchange, teaching the Japanese language abroad and academic exchange, in addition to supporting and collecting information on international cultural cooperation and exchange and setting standards for international cultural exchange.
It is noteworthy that, on the sidelines of the opening session of the conference, several agreements were signed, including specifying a partnership agreement between the Faculty of Al-Alsun and the British Council to hold the IELTS and ICT exams at the faculty. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development in the Kingdom of Spain and Ain Shams University in the Arab Republic of Egypt regarding the recruitment of a Spanish lecturer to teach in the Spanish department at the faculty.
