The dual partnerships session at the 12th Ain Shams University Scientific Conference

The dual degree session at Ain Shams University, which was held during the activities of the university's twelfth scientific conference, reviewed the successful partnership between Ain Shams University and the University of East London, represented by the dual degree granted by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the University of East London in general.

Among the speakers was Prof. Diana Glautier from the University of East London and Prof. Mahmoud Khalil, Director of Programs at the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Shereen Rady, Director of Programs at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, and the sessions were chaired by Prof. Ahmed Al-Sabbagh, Vice Dean of Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Rasha Ismail, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences for Postgraduate Studies and Research.

         
   
         

The session began by presenting the success of the partnership between Ain Shams University and the University of East London, represented by the dual degree granted by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the University of East London. The session was moderated by Prof. Ahmed Al-Sabbagh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Rasha Ismail, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Tamer Samir, Academic Coordinator for International Education at the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Hanan Yousry, International Dual Degree Coordinator at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences.

Prof. Mahmoud Khalil, Director of Special Programs, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, presented a detailed presentation of the history of the dual degree and programs in the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, and also a review of statistics on the number of graduates holding a dual degree, a review of meetings and workshops with UEL University, and encouragement of UEL to complete the international campus requirements to be able to offering a degree in engineering.

   
   

The session continued with Prof. Shereen Rady, Director of Special Programs at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, Ain Shams University, who presented a detailed presentation of the methodology followed by the faculty to activate the partnership with the University of East London by accrediting the faculty’s six programs. She also reviewed the success plan that began in 2020 and the steps followed in coordinating courses and accreditation. She also explained that concerted efforts continue until now.

Then, Prof. Diana Glotier, Associate Director of Academic Partnerships and International Engagement at the University of East London, presented the University of East London's perspective on the success of this partnership, presenting the compatibility and shared vision between the two universities. She also explained that Egypt is one of the attractive places in the Middle East for university education, and that Ain Shams University is one of the most prestigious universities. Dr. Diana spoke about the efforts of the two universities to hold a conference for the success of the partnership and the hard work that led to the development and continuation of the partnership for successive years.

The three speakers also reviewed the success stories of the partnership through training courses for teachers and students and students traveling to the University of East London to attend a summer school. They also expressed their pride in the graduation of the first batch of dual degree holders. During the conversation, some difficulties and how to overcome them were reviewed, such as coordinating courses in accordance with the regulations of the two universities, the partnership overcoming the difficulties of the Covid-19 period, and the difficulties and differences in fees from one academic year to another due to the change in the currency exchange rate.
