Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, chaired a session entitled “Partnerships in the Humanitarian Fields” as part of the activities of the 12th scientific conference, in the presence of Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research.

The Dean of the Faculty expressed his happiness at the success of the Faculty of Law’s multiple partnerships, praised the efforts of its participants, and stressed the importance of continuing the historical partnerships that bring together the Faculty’s strategic partners.

Adding that the Faculty has many partnerships with well-established higher education bodies and institutions inside and outside the Arab world, and that this session is attended by a number of the faculty’s strategic allies who have cooperative relations with the faculty in the academic, cultural, research, and training fields, as the Egyptian Civil Code derived some of its texts from the French Civil Code.

Mr. Olivier Gout, Dean of the Law School at the University of Lyon3, participated in the session via video conference technology. He expressed his pride in the partnership that brings together the two ancient faculties, which has continued for 20 years, pointing to the status of the French University of Lyon, which occupies third place among French universities. He also stressed that the openness of the French University for the partnerships brings together with universities around the world.

He reviewed the agreement concluded between them to grant students of the college’s French section a Bachelor of Laws degree from France, which is a degree recognized at the European Union level, while the students currently obtain a degree in legal studies from the University of Lyon.

Thus, by the end of the fourth year, students obtain a Bachelor of Laws degree from France. In addition, the student obtains a Bachelor of Laws degree from Egypt. They also obtain a number of hours that qualify them to enroll directly in the second year of the Master’s degree, whether at the University of Lyon (3) or at the University of Ain Shams.

Prof. Yasser Fouad, Dean of Al-Buraimi College in the sister Sultanate of Oman, also spoke via remote technology about the establishment of Al-Buraimi University College and its connection with higher education institutions in the Sultanate and areas of cooperation according to academic affiliation, and about the close relationship with which the two colleges are linked. Prof. Yasser Fouad pointed out that the Faculty of Law is closely academically linked to Al Buraimi University College in the Sultanate of Oman, which is unique in that it grants a doctoral degree in the field of law under the supervision of the Faculty of Law at the Egyptian University.

This agreement comes as a continuation of the successful cooperation between the two colleges, which began with the bachelor’s program in 2011, followed by the master’s program, and then the doctoral stage.

Counselor Fatima Khalifa, international advisor to the United Nations Legal Commission (UNCITRAL), participated during the session via video conference technology. During her participation, she reviewed the establishment of the committee, which is the legal arm of the United Nations, its specializations, and aspects of cooperation between UNCITRAL and the Faculty of Law. She also presented the committee’s work mechanisms and its working teams.

Prof. Ahmed Fathi, Director of the Office of International Cooperation at the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University, spoke about the distinguished partnerships that the college is looking to strengthen, such as the partnership between the college and the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, and Queen Mary, and addressed the most prominent challenges facing the unit and the most important goals of international cooperation therein.
