The Spanish “Webometrics” classification for July 2024 announced that Ain Shams University appeared among the top 1000 universities in the world, making the university ranked (908) globally and fifth locally, with an advance of approximately 40% of its ranking compared to 2019. This comes in accordance with the university’s strategy to work on raising its ranking globally in various classifications.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, pointed out that the advancement of Ain Shams University’s ranking in various international classifications comes as a result of success and the result of great efforts from all employees of the system within the university and future plans that enabled the university to excel over other international universities. It appears among the top 1,000 universities globally in the Webometrics classification, as well as in many other specialized rankings.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen added that the “Webometrics” classification is one of the most important international classifications for universities, and is an important indicator of the university’s ability to keep pace with modern technological developments and communicate with the outside world through the university’s website, which contributes to enhancing its international reputation and attracting distinguished students and researchers from all over the world.
Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and Acting Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, explained that the university works according to a strategy that ensures that scientific research keeps pace with global and economic developments, taking into account sustainable development and focusing scientific research topics on modern global trends, green research and sustainable development to protect the environment, and its resources and partnerships with local and international institutions to serve the community, develop the environment, and develop appropriate solutions to the problems and needs of the community.
Prof. Ghada Farouk explained that Ain Shams University appeared in the ranking (718) globally with a number of citations (583,611), ahead of the January 2024 edition, with an increase of (28,588) citations during the Webometrics global classification of reference citations, results of its July 2024 edition.
It is worth noting that the (Webometrics General) classification is issued twice a year starting from 2024, at the end of the months (January and July) of each year, to motivate educational institutions to have a greater presence on the Internet and display their activities accurately, and to pay attention to web policy, open access and transparency. In addition to issuing a special version of the classification to evaluate universities according to the rate of reference citations based on Google Scholar for citations to scientific research, the classification covers more than 32 thousand educational institutions from various countries of the world.
