Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, received the Ambassador of Portugal, His Excellency Ambassador Rui Terino, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy, Dr. Irma Gonzalez, and Dr. Joaquin Ramos, representing the Camoes Institute; one of the largest language institutes in Portugal and one of the largest academic supporters of the Portuguese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun according to the tripartite agreement signed between Ain Shams University, the University of Porto and the Camoes Institute, in the presence of the Head of the Portuguese Language Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Reham Ezzat.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, gave a detailed introduction to Ain Shams University and the progress and achievements it has made recently. Her Excellency also gave an introduction to the history of the Faculty of Languages, its departments and available programs, as well as international academic programs and cooperation and exchange agreements with a number of universities in various countries of the world.
Her Excellency also mentioned the number of programs that have recently obtained programmatic accreditation and the importance of this step and its impact from an academic perspective on the Faculty of Languages.
The meeting included a presentation by Prof. Dr. Reham Ezzat, Head of the Portuguese Language Department, on the achievements of the Portuguese Language Department since its opening in the academic year 2019-2020 and the student activities carried out by the department under the supervision of its teaching staff, headed by the Cultural Advisor to the Portuguese Embassy, Dr. Irma Gonzalez. The presentation also addressed the areas and job opportunities in which students perform field training for 60 hours during their study period and the volunteer activities in which students participate in official seminars and conferences, as well as the honorable performance of the department's students in these activities, in addition to the distinguished results achieved by students in the scholarships available to them through the Camoes Institute to study at various Portuguese universities.
The discussion revolved around the renewal of the tripartite agreement signed between Ain Shams University, the University of Porto and the Camoes Institute and the possibility of starting steps to open a postgraduate program for the Portuguese Language Department, completing the journey of the Faculty of Languages in cooperation with the Portuguese side in spreading the Portuguese language and culture.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the College, accompanied the visitors on an inspection tour of the halls of the accredited programs and the new headquarters of the Chinese Confucius Institute at the Faculty of Languages, where they expressed their great admiration for the distinguished and advanced infrastructure they saw.
