Ain Shams University Celebrates World Patient Safety Day

The Faculty of Medicine celebrated World Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2024 at Banhawi Auditorium, under the slogan "Improving Diagnosis to Ensure Patient Safety" under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk Hassan, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Hala Samir Sweid, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Ihab Shahd Habil, Head of the Health Care Quality Department.

   
   

The celebration included several awareness lectures for the community and medical service providers. Professor Maha Al-Tahawi, Professor of Public Health in the Department of Healthcare Quality, gave a lecture on improving diagnosis to ensure patient safety. She spoke about the reasons leading to diagnostic failure and the most important strategies for improving diagnosis. Prof. Hala Sweid commented, speaking about the challenges facing doctors and patients in diagnosing diseases of the elderly.

Prof. Asst. Dr. Marwa Al-Adham, Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pathology, gave a lecture on the most important tips to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Then, Dr. Shaimaa Al-Bakl, Lecturer in the Department of Healthcare Quality, gave a lecture on the role of patients in improving diagnostic safety to raise awareness among the faculty’s staff and workers.

This celebration comes within the framework of the efforts of the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, to promote a culture of patient safety and healthcare quality.
