the Faculty of Medicine Within the framework of signing contracts for the Arab Biobank Network project, the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, in cooperation with Ain Shams University, is organizing the first official conference to announce the launch of the network.
The conference will be held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in the Mahlawy Auditorium at the Faculty of Medicine – at Ain Shams University.
The Arab Biobanking Network is one of the pioneering projects under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, as the network’s funding body, with the aim of enhancing Arab cooperation in the fields of research, development and innovation. The project operates within the framework of the Arab Research, Development and Innovation Alliance (ARICA), which is one of the initiatives supporting joint Arab action.
The network aims to enhance the preservation of biological samples by establishing integrated biobanks that serve scientific and medical research, encourage cooperation between Arab countries to develop advanced medical studies, and contribute to developing effective solutions to common health challenges among Arab countries.
The Biobank at the Research Center MASRI of Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, is the first cancer biobank in Egyptian universities. It is worth noting that the Cancer Biobank at Ain Shams Medical Center is a member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and represents the main center for Arab biobanks.
The conference will introduce the network’s objectives, working mechanisms, and launch plan for the next phase. This project is a milestone in developing Arab scientific research and enhancing regional cooperation, serving health and development issues in the Arab world.
The conference is an opportunity to meet with a group of scientists and researchers from different Arab countries to exchange knowledge and experiences, which contributes to enhancing the position of Arab scientific research on the global stage.
