Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the university team composed of graduates from the Petroleum Geophysics program at the Faculty of Science achieved an outstanding accomplishment by securing first place in the Petro-Cup competition at the African level. This annual competition, organized by Russia’s Gubkin University for petroleum and gas engineering students, now qualifies the team for the global competition.
Petro-Cup is one of the world-renowned competitions where participants work to design and develop oil fields within a virtual reality environment. The African-level competition took place on October 23-24, 2024, featuring top student teams from African universities specializing in petroleum and gas.
The competition consists of two stages: a regional phase, after which the top universities from each region advance to the global level.
The aim of the Petro-Cup is to develop an oil field to increase production over five consecutive years through simulation, helping students advance their understanding of petroleum concepts and test their ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on their knowledge.
Each participating team comprises 10 students, and the winning team from Ain Shams University included: Ibrahim Emad El-Din Ahmed, Ahmed Agwa, El-Sayed Ramadan, Hagar Atef, Mohamed Badie, Zainab Eid, Belal Yehia, Eman Ahmed Ibrahim, Menna Yasser, and Youssef Khaled.
