Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, witnessed the celebration of Ain Shams University Hospitals on the success of the university hospitals automation project system, which comes within the framework of the partnership contract between the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, Delta Electronic Systems Company, and the Vodafone Egypt/Health Insight Asia alliance to implement the digital transformation system and the automation of university hospitals throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt.
In the presence of Eng. Mahmoud El Khatib, Vice President of Vodafone Business Sector, Dr. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of Delta Electronic Systems, Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, Eng. Nasser Shehata, CEO of Health Insights Asia, and hospital directors.
In his speech during the celebration, the university president stressed that the cooperation between the public and private sectors that we witnessed in this project represents a pioneering model of successful integration, and reflects the state's keenness to develop and raise the efficiency of services provided to citizens throughout the republic.
He explained that the first phase of this project was launched in Ain Shams University Hospitals in January 2022, starting with the automation of 6 hospitals, with the aim of automating all hospitals within two years of operation. Currently, all hospitals rely on this system with a coverage rate of 75% of services, and laboratories and radiology departments rely on it 100%, which reflects the real improvement in the quality of medical services and the ability of hospitals to meet the needs of patients effectively.
Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen thanked the success partners for their active role in this project, and in providing the latest technological solutions, as well as training hospital workers and providing continuous technical support services.
His Excellency also thanked the hospital leaders, medical and nursing teams, and all hospital workers for adopting this system and ensuring its success, stressing that Ain Shams University Hospitals have been pioneers in digital transformation for years.
The President of Ain Shams University stressed that what has been achieved today is only the beginning of the road; the next goal is to complete this digital transformation, and to establish the concept of governance in the health sector, reaching the stage of full reliance on technology.

He added, “We are honored by our strategic partnership with Ain Shams University and the Supreme Council of University Hospitals in digitizing 13 Ain Shams University Hospitals, which has brought about a fundamental transformation and a major qualitative leap in healthcare providers’ access to and processing of patient data, which has contributed to accelerating and improving medical diagnosis and providing healthcare more efficiently, as we were able to reduce patient waiting time by 32% and reduce patient turnover by 63% in the Geriatric Hospital affiliated with Ain Shams University Hospitals.”
More than 25,000 employees in the health sector have been trained, contributing to serving more than one million citizens who visit Ain Shams University hospitals annually.
We also aim to serve more than ten million others in the rest of the university hospitals in Egypt, and at the same time, our solutions have been able to achieve financial savings exceeding 50 million pounds thanks to the digitization of hospitals.
For his part, Dr. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of Delta Electronic Systems, expressed his pride in cooperating with Ain Shams University in launching the digital transformation project for university hospitals, stressing that the university is distinguished by the availability of modern infrastructure, qualified human cadres, and a strong will to achieve this project successfully. He hoped that this stage would be a starting point for all university hospitals in Egypt, looking forward to more success in the coming stages.
He explained that Delta Electronic Systems contributes effectively to projects of a national nature, stressing that the company has a pivotal role in supporting digital transformation in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, and reviewed a number of national projects in which the company participated.
He also stressed that Ain Shams University is the first university to launch a hospital automation project as part of a national plan to digitize Egyptian universities, and it represents a pioneering step that will have positive effects on citizens across the country upon completion. The project will contribute to the integrated management of drug inventory, in addition to providing a comprehensive database that supports scientific research, which facilitates the patient's journey inside the hospital and enhances the accuracy and efficiency of the services provided to him.
At the end of his speech, he stressed Delta's commitment to working side by side with its partners to achieve digital progress, which enhances the quality of health and educational services and achieves citizens' aspirations for a better future.
In his speech, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, stressed that Ain Shams University Hospitals are always pioneers and for 8 years the hospitals have formed strong teams and management for digital transformation, which has become the nucleus and main driver of the hospital automation system in conjunction with a plan to improve the infrastructure, which qualified Ain Shams University Hospitals to be the starting point for the university hospitals automation project.
He concluded his speech by thanking all those in charge of the project.
Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, stressed that the secret of the success of Ain Shams University Hospitals lies in the human power and the ability of hospital affiliates to adopt everything new, thanking all partners of success, and gave a quick overview of the university hospitals, the distinguished medical services they provide, the developments they have witnessed and the projects being implemented under the Ain Shams Medical City.
He added that the construction projects being implemented in Ain Shams Medical City keep pace with the digital transformation, which helps in managing the system professionally.
He also explained the aspects that will be included in the hospital automation project, which will add to Ain Shams Virtual and Digital Hospital, and scientific research.
He also looked forward to a future vision for a number of projects, including the smart pharmacy, which reduces the rate of treatment errors and adjusts the treatment dose for the patient, and the control and command center, which is a central committee to control everything related to hospitals.
He also talked about the partnerships that bring together hospitals with major institutions, including a partnership agreement with Siemens to use artificial intelligence in diagnosis, which includes 4 stages, the first of which was successfully completed.
On the sidelines of the celebration, the Martyr Engineer Ahmed Shawky Hospital for Geriatric Medicine and the Demerdash Surgical Hospital were inspected.
