"You Are Stronger Than Drugs” ... A seminar at the Faculty of Archaeology

The Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University organized a symposium entitled "You are stronger than drugs" as part of Ain Shams University's ongoing efforts to spread community awareness among its students and contribute to combating the phenomenon of addiction.

The event is held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and coordinated by Prof. Hossam Tantawy, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology, and as a continuation of the series of symposia organized by the Education and Students Sector represented by the University Student Union in cooperation with the Anti-Addiction Fund.

         
   
         

Prof. Nawal Gaber, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Students Affairs, stressed the importance of organizing these awareness symposia in universities and the academic community, pointing to the great role played by the university in spreading awareness among its students about the dangers of this phenomenon that can affect their lives and future.

The symposium hosted Dr. Rasha Rashad, a researcher at the Anti-Addiction Fund, who gave a comprehensive lecture on the psychological, health and social risks of drugs, and the importance of continuous awareness in reducing the spread of this phenomenon among young people.

She also gave an accurate scientific presentation on the effect of drugs on the brain and nervous system, pointing out how drug use affects mental and behavioral performance, as well as the deterioration of social and work relationships.

She also reviewed the different types of drugs and their impact on different age groups, with a focus on the youth category, which is the most vulnerable to risks.

Her Excellency added that the Anti-Addiction Fund plays a major role in helping addicted youth through treatment programs and psychological support, in addition to ongoing awareness campaigns that aim to spread awareness in all universities.

She also stressed that cooperation between academic and health institutions contributes to building a strong society capable of confronting this scourge.

Dr. Badr Abdel Aziz Badr, Director General of Legal Affairs at the Anti-Addiction Fund, discussed the legal dimensions of the Anti-Narcotics and Drug Trafficking Law and the most important features that distinguish this law from its predecessor and the expansion of the scope of criminalization in it from the crimes of being present in a place of use, preparing a place for use, and simple possession of drugs, as well as the new treatment system in the law.

A short awareness film entitled "4 x 6" was also shown to students, discussing the idea of ​​addiction and use among young people.

At the end of the seminar, the opportunity was provided to answer the questions of students and participants, as many students expressed their interest in obtaining more information on how to prevent drugs.
