Prof. Neven El Nahhas, Professor of Neurology, Head of the Brain Activity Modulation Laboratory, Head of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, and former Director of the Stroke Unit, received the World Stroke Organization Barbro Johanson Award in Stroke Recovery. This award is given annually during the organization’s conference to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of stroke recovery, and for the first time this year it is being given to a doctor from the Third World.
The opening session of the conference praised the appreciation of the award committee for the efforts made by Prof. El Nahhas in light of the limited capabilities available in developing countries. Her Excellency also gave a lecture at the opening session of the conference in appreciation of her efforts in this field.
It is worth noting that Prof. Neven El Nahhas is one of the most prominent specialists in neurorehabilitation, gait disorders and non-invasive brain stimulation. She is distinguished by her scientific contributions through many publications on stroke and brain activity modification, in addition to her membership in the UNESCO Ad Hoc Expert Group on Neurotechnology Ethics, and being a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Neuroscience, in addition to her leadership of the Austrian-Egyptian Forum for Neurorehabilitation (AEDES) and coordinating the Global Stroke Database in Egypt, which enhances her position as a leading researcher in international research projects aimed at developing innovative treatments to improve the quality of life of stroke patients.
The memory of the late Prof. Hany Aref, former Head of the Department of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Secretary General of the Egyptian Society of Neurology, and former Vice President of the Stroke Organization for the Middle East and North Africa, was also honored in recognition of his pioneering contributions at the local and international levels in the field of stroke. Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and the University Awards Office congratulated Prof. Neven El-Nahhas on this global honor, stressing the university's continued support for distinguished research achievements and encouraging researchers to submit research that contributes to the development of science and knowledge locally and internationally.
