The Mental health to prevent addiction... A symposium at the Faculty of Archaeology

The Faculty of Archaeology at Ain Shams University organized a symposium entitled "The Importance of Mental Health and Psychological Well-Being in Preventing Addiction", which was held by the Environmental Projects and Community Development Unit at the Faculty. The event comes within the presidential initiative "A New Beginning for Human Development", and under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Hossam Tantawy, Dean of the Faculty, and under the supervision of Dr. Basem Mohamed Sayed, Acting Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.

Dr. Walaa Hosni, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Department of Children and Adolescents at the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, lectured in which she spoke about the phenomenon of addiction with its multiple aspects, the manifestations of addiction and the most important signs that appear on addicts and affect their societal behaviors. Then she touched on the aspects of psychological and health care that can be provided to the addict, explaining the ways to achieve mental health and safety.

The event concluded with a group workshop to apply psychological exercises, followed by an open discussion with the attendees on practical and community solutions to prevent addiction, promote and sustain mental health, and spread the culture of positive psychology.
