The Faculty of Mass Communication at Ain Shams University held a workshop on “Creating Radio Content (Idea... Script... Presentation)” on Monday, where Mr. Morsi Abdel-Alim, Senior Broadcaster at the Youth and Sports Radio of the National Media Authority, lectured under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and under the supervision of Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and Prof. Salwa Soliman, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs.
Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty, welcomed the distinguished radio guest of the workshop, Mr. Morsi Abdel-Alim, and welcomed the attendees from the faculty staff, teaching assistants of the Media Production Department, and the students.
She stressed that today's workshop is full of valuable advice and distinguished practical experiences in the field of radio work, and explained the faculty's keenness to provide students with practical skills by hosting prominent figures in the field of professional media work in its various forms, which gives students practical media production skills, develops their creativity skills, and reduces the gap with the media labor market, which is growing rapidly in light of the digital environment.
Mr. Morsi Abdel-Alim explained the points of distinction of the media professional, including: his personality, his enjoyment of a sound voice and clear pronunciation, the ability to diversify in performance, good handling of topics, and familiarity with technological developments. He stressed the importance of developing speaking skills by reading the Quran and poetry, and paying attention to diverse culture in various fields.
He stressed that a good media professional is able to simplify his language so that you do not find complex or ambiguous terms in him, explaining that good performance depends on understanding the text, its formation, coloring, and reading it in the Arabic language, “The distinguished journalist is the one who knows when and how to start and when and how to end.”
The senior broadcaster of the Youth and Sports Radio also explained that the idea of the program should interest people, and that audience members are usually attracted to human ideas that are close to their lives. It is also preferable for the beginnings to be interesting, such as mentioning a proverb, a famous saying, a verse of poetry, or a question, which gives the performance a spirit.
Mr. Morsi Abdel-Alim encouraged the students to try the experience of reciting texts in front of their colleagues and gave important advice and guidance to the students. He also explained the weaknesses and strengths in each student’s performance to achieve maximum benefit.
At the end of the workshop, Prof. Heba Shaheen honored Mr. Morsi Abdel-Alim in appreciation of his efforts in presenting the practical workshop and transferring a large amount of information and practical experiences to the students.
