The UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize is one of the international awards concerned with the preservation of documentary heritage. This prize is awarded every two years to individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations, and other entities that have made exceptional contributions to the preservation of documentary heritage and its accessibility.
It is worth noting that the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize was established in 2004, in memory of the inscription of the Jikji Book, which is considered the oldest book printed in metal letters. It is awarded every two years, and the value of the prize is estimated at 30 thousand US dollars.
The award aims to:
Strengthening the Memory of the World Program established by UNESCO in 1992.
Honoring institutions and individuals who have made exceptional contributions to preserving documentary heritage.
Encouraging efforts to preserve documentary heritage and make it available to the public.
Files must be submitted in English or French for a maximum of three candidates, including a summary and description of the candidate’s background and achievements, as well as a summary of the work or results of the work, in addition to supporting documents of greatest importance, as well as a review of the way in which the work submitted has contributed to it. Nomination files shall be sent directly to the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO-ECSO-ICESCO) no later than April 25, 2024.
This is so that the National Committee can present the nominations to the relevant technical committee and send the nominations to the organization before April 30, 2024.
