Under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Zafaran Museum hosted a high-level delegation on Wednesday, June 5th, from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority and the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. This visit was part of the Egypt-U.S. Joint Science and Technology Fund Symposium, held at Ain Shams University and hosted by the university's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub (ASU-iHub).
The museum’s team, including Dr. Walaa Eldin Badawi, Museum Director, and curators Dr. Hend Abdel Radi, Dr. Hossam Mohamed, and Dr. Abir Omar, welcomed the delegation. They provided a detailed tour and comprehensive explanations of the unique artifacts and collections housed at the Zafaran Museum.
The visit began with an introduction to the history of Zafaran Palace, the concept behind establishing the museum, and its historically significant collections. The tour then proceeded through the halls, starting with the Arab Al-Hosn collection, unearthed from the Ain Shams region, a geographical part of the university, through excavations supervised by Ain Shams University and Prof. Mamdouh Eldamaty, Professor of Egyptology and the museum’s general supervisor.
The tour continued with the remarkable Egyptian artifacts collection, featuring a detailed simulation of the mummification process, showcasing every step of this unique ancient Egyptian practice. The delegation then explored the Islamic artifacts collection, which includes significant historical pieces from the Muhammad Ali dynasty.
At the end of their visit, the delegation and their companions expressed their admiration for the museum’s meticulous presentation and the effort invested in creating such an impressive institution. They extended their gratitude to the museum team for their hospitality and excellent explanations. Before leaving, they captured memorable photographs with the museum staff and expressed their desire to return for future visits.
