Mission

Museum Mission

The Saffron Museum is unique in that it combines the characteristics of antiquities museums and art museums within the framework of an educational university museum that presents a panorama of the history of Egypt from the times of ancient Egypt until the history of modern Egypt. It brings together within it a diverse archaeological collection that expresses the historical development of Egyptian civilization, adding to its value by displaying it in a historic palace. It reflects important stages in Egypt's modern history.

The Saffron Museum's archaeological collections allow us to explore the extraordinary diversity of Egyptian culture and the product of human activity, to discover the many forms and expressions that the Egyptians gave to every aspect of life, and to realize how closely interconnected they were. The Saffron Museum serves the university student and community, audiences of all ages, as well as the university's international guests. The Saffron Museum provides the opportunity to appreciate, learn about, and analyze art, cultural history, and science through archaeological collections, exhibitions (on campus), and scholar publishing.

The museum’s academic and public programs include special courses, lectures, events, and holding exhibitions for artists, workshops, concerts, seminars, and other events. The museum’s collections include approximately 167 artifacts, some of which were extracted from the university’s excavations in Arab Al-Hesn area in Matareya, which enhances communication between archaeological field work and museum display, starting from Statues and parts, from vaults to decorative arts and Islamic artifacts to modern prints, paintings and contemporary sculpture. The museum also provides modern technological applications in the museum display to achieve an exceptional experience for its visitors.

The museum complements the university’s activities and supports its educational mission by integrating with the university’s academic and methodological programs and benefiting from the participation of students, faculty members, and researchers. Internships, fellowships, and scholarly publishing programs enhance the museum's exhibits.
